Direct comparison
Google Cloud or Infomaniak? The direct cloud comparison of services, data centers, costs and sovereignty. Hyperscaler versus European cloud – focused on sovereignty, GDPR and compliance.
Google Cloud and Infomaniak represent two fundamentally different cloud strategies: The hyperscaler focuses on technological depth and global scalability, while the Swiss provider aims for maximum sovereignty and cost efficiency in the IaaS sector. Google Cloud dominates in the categories Big Data (10/10), AI (9/10), and Containerization (10/10), making it the first choice for data-intensive innovations and complex, global architectures. In return, Infomaniak offers significantly higher independence from US jurisdictions with a SEAL Score of 8.2/10 (82%) and an operational sovereignty of 9/10, which can be decisive for data protection-critical organizations in Europe. While Google Cloud scores with a broad portfolio of Managed Services, Infomaniak convinces with a very good price rating of 8/10 and an open OpenStack stack that minimizes lock-in effects. The choice thus primarily depends on whether strategic flexibility and AI capabilities (Google) or jurisdictional security and cost control (Infomaniak) are in the foreground.
Methodology & data basisUSP: Leading in data analytics, AI, and Kubernetes, adjustable vCPU/RAM ratio
Recommendation: Recommended for data-driven organizations and developers focused on innovation
USP: Independent, employee-owned Swiss provider running a 100% Swiss-hosted OpenStack public cloud with a sovereign Microsoft 365 alternative (kSuite)
Recommendation: Recommended for Switzerland organisations that need data sovereignty, together with an open OpenStack IaaS and basic requirements in infrastructure or an alternative for Collaboration tools

Google Cloud is a global hyperscaler with an extremely broad portfolio of PaaS and SaaS services, particularly in the areas of Big Data (10/10), AI (9/10), and Containerization (10/10). Infomaniak is an independent Swiss provider focusing on IaaS and collaboration, but offering significantly higher technological (9/10) and operational sovereignty (9/10) as well as better pricing (8/10). Google Cloud is suitable for complex, global, and data-intensive projects, while Infomaniak is ideal for sovereignty-critical, cost-sensitive, and Europe-centric workloads.
Infomaniak is significantly more sovereign. Infomaniak's SEAL Score is 8.2/10 (82%), while Google Cloud only reaches 4.3/10 (43%). This is also reflected in the subcategories: Infomaniak achieves 9/10 in technological sovereignty and 9/10 in operational sovereignty, while Google Cloud reaches 6/10 and 6/10 respectively. The main reason is the US jurisdiction of Google Cloud (SOV-2: 2/10) compared to Infomaniak's Swiss independence.
Infomaniak is generally cheaper. Infomaniak's price rating is 8/10 (Cost Rating 9.0/10), while Google Cloud only reaches 5/10 (Cost Rating 5.6/10). A clear difference is shown especially in egress costs: Infomaniak scores 10.0/10 here, Google Cloud 3.0/10. However, actual costs are always workload-dependent and should be calculated on a case-by-case basis.
Google Cloud is clearly superior here. In the Big Data category, Google Cloud reaches the maximum value of 10/10, supported by services such as BigQuery and Looker. Infomaniak is at 3/10 here. Google Cloud also leads in the AI category with 9/10 (Vertex AI, specialized APIs) significantly ahead of Infomaniak, which scores 3/10 here. For data-intensive analyses and AI models, Google Cloud is the better choice.
Google Cloud offers a very broad portfolio of Managed Databases (10/10), including Cloud SQL for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL, as well as NoSQL options such as Firestore and Bigtable. Infomaniak currently primarily offers MySQL as a Managed Database, while PostgreSQL, Redis, and OpenSearch are still listed as 'announced'. For organizations that need a variety of database engines, Google Cloud is better positioned.
